Charles Sobhraj to take on Bollywood

Bollywood writer-director Prawal Raman, who shot into fame with the horror flick "Darna Mana Hai" (Fear is prohibited), has himself now a good reason for apprehension. His interview in an Indian daily has landed him in trouble with Charles Sobhraj, the crime maestro of yesteryear whose daring exploits, mastery over disguises and jail escapes have reportedly inspired the maverick director to work on a new film.

Varma's 'Darling' has some hummable numbers

Film: "Darling"; Music Directors: Pritam, Himesh Reshammiya and Prasana Shekhar; Singers: Shaan, Himesh Reshammiya, Sunidhi Chauhan, Tulsi Kumar, Priyadarshini, Adnan Sami; Ratings: **1/2 It seems director Ram Gopal Varma is keen to be different with his film music; hence he has roped in Pritam as the main composer for the soundtrack of his film "Darling".

'Jahan Jaaeyega Hamen Paaeyega' music not worth it

Film: "Jahan Jaaeyega Hamen Paaeyega"; Music Director: Aadesh Srivastav; Singers: Aadesh Srivastav, Udit Narayan, Sneha Pant, Sunidhi Chauhan; Ratings: * A terribly delayed film, "Jahan Jaaeyega Hamen Paaeyega" (JJHP) stars Govinda, Divya Dwivedi and Shivani Shivananda. As far as the music is concerned, JJHP is of the kind that would fade away without anyone realising the same. It has little chance of making it to any music charts.

'Chak De India' songs not catchy enough

Film: "Chak de India"; Music Director: Salim-Suleiman; Singers: K.K., Sukhwinder Singh, Anushka Manchandani, Hema Sardesai, Marianne D'cruz, Salim Merchant, Shah Rukh Khan and Krishna Medieval Punditz; Rating: ** "Chak De India", a much-awaited Yash Raj Film starring Shah Rukh Khan, is set to hit the screens but the music isn't really making waves. Composer duo Salim-Suleiman have not done anything extraordinary or exciting.

'Marigold' music less than average

Film: "Marigold"; Music Director: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy; Singers: Shaan, Vikas Bhalla, Alka Yagnik, Truth Hurts, Ali Larter, Nihira Joshi, Sneha Pant, Nikita Nigam; Ratings: *1/2 The music of the Salman Khan-starring Hollywood flick "Marigold" is quite a disappointment, especially when you know it has been composed by none other than Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the ruling kings of Bollywood music.

'Heyy Babyy' - a feel-good album with moderate life span

Film: "Heyy Babyy"; Music Director: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy; Singers: Shankar Mahadevan, Loy, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal, Shaan, Neeraj Sridhar, Rehan Khan, Salim Shehzada, Sajid Khan, Pervez Quadir, Raman, Girl Band; Ratings: *** Sajid Khan's debut film's promos are out and going by the looks, the movie seems to be fun, youthful and full of energy like that of his sister Farha Khan's directorial debut "Main Hoon Na". And the music is not far behind as Khan has roped in Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for the soundtrack.

Sunidhi is the saving grace in 'Cash'

Film: "Cash"; Music Director: Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani; Singers: Sunidhi Chauhan, Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani, Anushka Manchandani; Ratings: *** "Cash" is all about loads of bikes, action, stunts and music. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the soundtrack of the movie has been composed by Vishal and Shekhar who haven't really put their skills to good use. Only two numbers make their mark.

Pritam bounces back with 'Naqaab'

Film: "Naqaab"; Music Director: Pritam Chakraborty; Lyricist: Sameer; Singers: Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Javed Ali, Alisha Chinai, Zubin Garg, Krishna; Ratings: **1/2. Abbas-Mustan, who return to the screens with thriller "Naqaab", made a safe bet with Pritam as their composer. Keeping the subject of the film in mind, the composer brings on a lot of instruments to do the talking and artistes who possess different yet likeable voices, unlike the usual 'Udits' and 'Alkas'. A fine album, "Naqaab" should do well in the markets.

Sajid-Wajid create masala music for 'Partner'

Film: "Partner"; Music Director: Sajid-Wajid; Singers: Sonu Nigam, Labh Janjuwa, Sunidhi Chauhan, Kunal Ganjawala, Sneha Pant, Shaan, Udit Narayan, Shweta Pandit, DJ Earl; Ratings: *** Composers Sajid-Wajid team up to create peppy foot-tapping music for director David Dhawan's latest flick "Partner". The catchy lyrics and the innovative use of sounds create masala tracks that will make you sit up and listen though they may not be the ones you would want to hear after a few months.

Reshammiya's 'Apne' is not too bad

Film: "Apne"; Music Director: Himesh Reshammiya; Singers: Sonu Nigam, Himesh Reshammiya, Jaspinder Narula, Akriti Kakkar, Jayesh Gandhi, Kunal Ganjawala, Shaan, Earl; Rating: ** The big family drama of the Deols finally sees the light of day with Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby coming together in "Apne", directed by Anil Sharma.

'Awarapan' boasts of India-Pakistan Sufi flavour

Film: "Awarapan"; Music Directors: Pritam Chakraborty, Mustafa Zahid, Baba Farid, Annie; Singers: Mustafa Zahid, Rafaqat Ali Khan, Suzanne D'Mello, Annie; Ratings: *** After delivering popular films with hit music, director Mohit Suri roped in composer Pritam Chakraborty for "Awarapan". But what Pritam ends up doing is not composing any of the music himself but bringing in compositions from across the border - to good effect.

Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar's album 'Saadgi'

Lata Mangeshkar, the Queen of Melody has come out of her cocoon to engage us in conversation in the language she knows best - the Language of Music. Lataji has released an album after nearly 17 years on the most suitable day – World Music Day. This album ' Saadgi ', which is a T-Seriespresentation, is a reflection of the great persona that is Lata Mangeshkar. It guilelessly serenades from one geet to another, reflecting the tranquil depths of the singer. Most of these Ghazal-like compositions have mostly been been penned by Javed Akhtar while the music has been composed by Mayuresh Pai

'Aap Kaa Surroor' is Reshammiya full blast

Film: "Aap Kaa Surroor"; Music: Himesh Reshammiya; Singers: Himesh Reshammiya, Shreya Ghosal, Sunidhi Chauhan; Lyrics: Sameer; Ratings **1/2 Interestingly, Himesh Reshammiya's debut movie is named exactly after his debut album "Aap Kaa Surroor", which came out in January 2006. So don't be surprised if you find stylistic similarities between the two.
