'Masti', 'Awara Paagal Deewana', 'Love Ke Liye Kuch
Bhi Karega', 'Hungama' - each of these films has three factors in
common: a) Aftab Shivdasani is the leading man, b) The film belongs to
comedy genre and c) It has done wonders at the box office. Now sample
some other movies that Aftab has done in his decade old career as a
leading man - 'Kasoor', 'Pyaasa', 'Footpath', 'Jaane Hoga Kya', 'Red'
and 'Speed'. While each of these films has been a thriller, except for
'Kasoor', none of the remaining ones has done any wonders at the box
office.
In such a scenario, it becomes quite easy to infer
that Aftab, who has also been seen as a child actor in films like 'Mr.
India', 'Shahenshah', 'Chaalbaaz' and 'Awwal Number', would consider
comedy as his favorite genre. Also, this genre would ensure good box
office returns for him all over again. No wonder, due to these very
reasons, one has good expectations from 'Aloo Chaat', a romantic comedy
directed by Robby Grewal.
So how does the term 'Aloo Chaat' find significance in the actually narrative of the film?
"See, it's a metaphor of sorts rather than being a
literal translation. You don't have to search for an actual meaning
here. Since the film is based in Delhi, the name 'Aloo Chaat' is
instantly recognizable since this is one delicacy in the North that is
loved by one and all", smiles Aftab as he looks forward to his film
bringing some smiles back into Bollywood that has been reeling under
flops.
He adds in a lighter vein, "Moreover, if you really
want to look beyond the symbolic factor then well there is this 'aloo
chat wallah' in the film as well that this family visits quite often.
Also, we have a setup of a typical orthodox Punjabi film set in Delhi
so you get to see all the 'masaledaar' happenings in this household. It
all boils down to the 'aloo chaat' in the life of all the inhabitants
of the house."
With Aamna Shariff and Linda Arsenio as the leading
ladies opposite Aftab Shivdasani, 'Aloo Chaat' is all set for a 20th
March release.
