I do fewer films, that is my DNA problem: Manoj Bajpai

Award-winning Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpai, who is often criticised for being too choosy about his roles, says there are only a few scripts which appeal to him, which makes him end up doing fewer films.

"I don't do many films, I like very few scripts. That's my DNA problem which I can't change," he said on the sidelines of the 9th OSian's-Cinefan film festival here.

"There are very few scripts that could satisfy Manoj Bajpai. That's the way I operate. I really don't know what I look for in a script but it happens with me that I choose most of my films after the first narration."

Bajpai, who has received rave reviews from both critics and audiences for films like "Satya" and "Pinjar" to name a few, says he likes to challenge himself with all sorts of roles and adds that he is in the profession to satisfy himself and not the audience.

"I work for myself. Just because I want to make audiences satisfied, I won't choose my films. If they get satisfied in the process of me getting satisfied through my roles, nothing like it. I won't choose films just for the sake of it," he said.

The "1971" star added that the Nicholas Cage starrer "Leaving Las Vegas" was one movie he would have loved to work in and that he has also requested acclaimed Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt to make a Hindi adaptation of the movie casting him in the lead role.

"I simply love that movie. I have actually requested Mahesh Bhatt to adapt it for me," he said.

Bajpai also said that he was too selfish to become a director, as he loved focusing only on the characters he played. "I don't look at anybody else. I love focusing on one character, and that's mine, and so I'm too selfish to become a director."
