The two-time-national award winning actor -
turned director Ajay Devgan makes his directorial debut with U ME AUR HUM, a
special love story of a psychiatrist and his beloved struggled with some mental
difficulties. The climax of the movie reached its peak when the lady suffers
from severe Alzheimer leading her to fading away memories that stand the
husband, the psychiatrist, before an acid-test for his beloved.
The story begins with the psychiatrist
falling in love at first sight with the bartender Pia. The psychiatrist Ajay
wins over the bartender's heart after desperate efforts and eventually their
love blooms to a tie. As the movie rolls
on, they realize their bond shaken by lies and pretenses. Do they fight the
battle for revival of love or they simply give up?
Debut for Ajay Devgan:
With a romantic piece U ME AUR HUM,
Bollywood onlookers witness a time when actors are turning into directors after
Aamir Khan's fabulous - Taare Zameen Par (2008).
Ajay Devgan is the producer and main actor
(Ajay) of his debuting film where Kajol Devgan (Pia), one of the best actresses
of the film industry, acts as c o-star. Subsequently, U ME AUR HUM is the first
movie of Kajol, real life wife of the movie director, since the hit ‘Fanaa' (2006).
Moreover, Ajay himself wrote the story of the film that comes to be a Devgan
production amassed several emotional sequences blending love, marriage and
perseverance.
In U ME AUR HUM, the director amalgamates casts
with different qualities - Karan Khanna, Isha Sharvani, Sumeet Raghavan,
Rituparna Sengupta, Sarika, Divya Dutta.
Story synopsis:
U, Me Aur Hum is a sensitive and emotional
love story. In movie, a psychiatrist, Dr. Ajay Mehra (Ajay Devgan) meets a
bartender, Pia (Kajol Devgan), while he is aboard a cruise liner on an excursion
trip with his two friends (Karan Khanna and Sumeet Raghavan ) and their female
companions (Isha Sharvani and Divya Dutta). Ajay falls in love with pia at
first glance. Getting apt support from his friends, Ajay tries hard and soul to
wooing Pia. At one stage Ajay wins over the Pia's heart and they fall in love
each other and finally get married. After a few months Pia gives birth to a
child. The couple is passing a happy life. But this is not the end of the story
rather the story turn into a new dimension. Destiny plays a cruel trick on their
conjugal life. Pia is suddenly attacked with fatal Alzheimer disease that
causes her to forget everything even her home address, Ajay's phone number etc.
As a result, Ajay is bounded to shift his beloved to mental hospital. The rest
of the movie narrates how Ajay manages to take care of their child and wriggles
out of his responsibilities when the love really faces trials and tribulations.
Direction in the Making:
For the first time in direction, Ajay has
done a very good job indeed in terms of displaying the Hollywood-style dance,
romance and love placed in the initial part of the movie although the imageries
of Pia's deteriorating condition, new born child drowning into water could shake
the audience's mind sighted in the second half. The very well executed scenes,
however, set in the movie prove the sensibility of the director to a different
level and the rhyming pattern in the dialogues adds an innovative value to the
movie.
The work of operator with large-scale plans
is not the satisfactory level whereas the film actually requires more mature
script instead of adding up scores of erogenous emotional scenes in it.
Moreover, U Me Aur Hum holding the same plot
of the American popular romantic film -The notebook released in 2004, is in
fact a remake production.
Performance:
Kajol is the main spirit of the U Me Aur
Hum. She has shown a brilliant performance and is live on screen with her
everlasting great smile and fantastic expressions. But the role represented by her
is undeniably conventional. She depends everywhere on the actor and her
presence is nothing notable but the symbol of love.
Ajay Devgan has done an even better job as
a director in the U Me Aur Hum. He does excellent performance in relation to placing
as powerful, active and hard hitting role. Ajay acts also in some highly
emotional scenes and romantic roles and handled the emotive sequences with
great ease.
Karan Khanna plays in comedian role that is
to some extent irksome. Isha Sharwani (Natasha) performs well and looks
elegant. Sumeet Raghavan (Nikhil) carries out a supportive role where Divya
Dutta (Reena) shows sound performance. However, Aditya Rajput and Hazel make a
short appearance in the movie.
Music:
Vishal Bharadwaj toiled behind the music is
excellent. He attunes the music superbly into the mood of the film. In movie, the title song ‘U Me Aur Hum', the
dance number ‘Jee Le', background score in the second half are really mind
blowing. The cinematography by Aseem Prakash Bajaj is good.
Judgment:
Having a few shortcomings, U Me Aur Hum is a
touchy love story unlike other recent offerings. It has got romance, comedy and
climax at a time. The film makes promises to its beloved of undying love and
countless commitments while it is worth a view to the audiences who enjoy
watching a meaningful movie.
