Small screen's 'Kareena' takes a big leap

Popular television actress Kulraj Randhawa, who played the role
of 'Kareena' from the soap "Kareena Kareena", is set to make her
Bollywood appearance with Sanjay Sharma's directorial debut "Jaane
Bhi Do Yaaron", a romantic comedy.
"I play the character Nisha in the film. She is a strong girl,
who has to accomplish a certain task. The film is about how she
overcomes the hurdles that come her way and achieves the goal. I
have shot a lot of action scenes," Kulraj, who was reluctant to
reveal further details, told IANS.
Kulraj stars opposite another debutant Kapil Sharma, younger
brother of the director. The cast also includes Anupam Kher and
Prem Chopra, she said, adding that working with veteran actors
proved to be a learning experience.
"It was a great opportunity to work with Anupam Kher and Prem
Chopra. I consider myself very lucky. I have learnt so much from
them."
The upcoming movie has borrowed its title from the classic 1983
comedy flick which starred seasoned actors like Naseeruddin Shah,
Ravi Baswani, Satish Shah, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapur, Satish Kaushik
and Neena Gupta.
It was a hilarious tale of two professional photographer friends,
who launch their own photo studio. In their first assignment, they
come across shady dealings, corruption and murder, which they
bravely battle out and bring the guilty to justice.
But the actress asserts that there are no chances of comparisons
between the two movies.
"This 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron' is a contemporary film. It is not a
remake of the old one. Both the films are completely different from
each other, so there is no possibility of comparison."
Kulraj has previously shared screen space with Jimmy Shergill in
Gurbir Grewal's Punjabi film "Mannat". The film was about an army
officer and a Punjab village girl who fall in love.
She agrees that she has picked up the "traits of the industry" but
adds that her move to Bollywood is still a big risk.
"It is a competitive age. In small screen I have worked in one of
the best soaps. Now the expectations of the audiences have gone up.
It is tough to meet their expectations," she said.
"Moreover the tinsel town is an all new world for me. It is almost
like starting from scratch and I will have to watch out every move
I make. This big leap is a big risk as well."
Kulraj has put on hold small-screen projects but she promises to
make a comeback as soon as any exciting project comes her way.
