Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan is a story of Uma didi, a 27-year old obedient daughter of a mill worker, who undertakes several jobs to run the family ever since the mill has shut. Set in the heart of Mumbai in a middle class “chawl”, it is mostly occupied by the mill workers, who are out of job; a story full of hardships and tribulations of a common man’s everyday life. Where Uma will hold the centre stage, as she will be looked up as a source of constant inspiration and driving force for the chawl people, who draw their strength and reason to live from her indomitable spirit!

Summary

The story is set in a midlle class basti in Mumbai, occupied by the mill workers who have lost their job as the mill has shut. The main protagonist Uma is a 27-year old dutiful daughter. She works hard to run the family ever since her father and brother lost their jobs after the mill shut.

Uma constantly tries to motivate the people in her basti to train themselves to conform to the various roles in the running of a mall which replaces the mill...

Uma's mother hopes to see her two daughters, Uma and her younger sister married and settled in life. Their education is not her priority to her but Uma aspires to fulfill her dreams.

Sambhav and Dushyant Jajodia are the mill owners who intend to conquer the basti property too. Uma gets married into their family that was also responsible for her younger brother's death.

To add yet another twist to her life, she discovers that her husband suffers from schizophrenia...
