In a hall that resonated with whistles, voices and tears of joy, the Melody Makers came together to make music on March 5, at 7.30pm. The music hall at the residence of singer Sudesh Bhosle witnessed a reunion after 25 years to celebrate Sudesh Bhosle's silver jubilee in the world of music.
The singer was responsible for the Melody Makers orchestra member's
reunion after over 25 years, with orchestra members leaving shows,
assignments and cities where they had settled down to come back to make
music together one more time. Melody Makers have been the force during
the stage performances of artistes of the likes of Noorjehan, Lata
Mangeshkar, Surender Kumar, Shabbir Kumar, Anwar, Hariharan, Hemant
Kumar, Talat Mehmood, GM Durrani and Kishore Kumar among others, one of
the memorable performances being the Mortal Men Immortal Melodies
series.
With time, the band members have moved to different
places and the old talent has made way for the new, but the reunion was
a matter of pride and togetherness. The hall came alive with music
and performances. And amid the singers, young 13-year-old Siddhant
`Bhosle took centrestage singing a melodious 'Madhuban Me Radhika
Naache Re'and 'Mitwa' from kabhi alvida na kehna with effortless ease,
the band members played on to cheer the confident young man. Sudesh and
Hema Bhosle confessed that this was the moment that really stole their
hearts. 25 years ago, Sudesh had begun his singing career with Melody
Makers. Incidentally, Sudesh Bhosle's father-in-law Ashok Kumar Saraf
is the man behind Melody Makers.
It was no easy task for Sudesh
Bhosle to organise this reunion. He checked out old diaries, picked out
numbers of old musicians, found contacts from contacts and finally
managed to track down 40 musicians from across the state. "They were
all touched by the gesture," said the singer, and what was magnanimous
was that they left everything to be here today.
The musicians
who had played with singers transcending generations, sat cross-legged
in the hall, and cheered their friends enthusiastically. The only
language audible amid the laughter was that of melodious music. For, it
was the night of the Melody Makers, who made time come a full circle
after two and half decades with their enthusiasm, together and melody!
