Not
a soundtrack to boast about. "Big Brother" is a passable album. With so
many other soundtracks trying new styles of compositions by the day,
"Big Brother" turns out to be stale and boring.
"Baalam tera
nakhra" is a typical Sunidhi Chauhan item number. Though the
composition is good, it's still not quite there to be claimed as a
sensation. The track has been well sung and includes the rustic appeal
that it requires. Written by Nilesh Misra and composed by Sandesh
Shandilya, 'Baalam tera nakhra' is an average song.
Ustad Sultan
Khan takes the reins in his hands when he solely croons "Jag laal
laal", a nice romantic number. Something on the likes of "Piya basanti"
and you feel no one but Ustad could have sung this piece and given it
the kind of emotions that he has. His voice sounds apt and the song
turns out to be a 'nice to hear', dreamy track.
There is another
version of this track by Zubin Garg. Zubin does not match the calibre
of Ustad, but he manages to give "Jag Laal Laal" a contemporary touch.
But only a 'to be heard once' track!
Zubin and Ustad return in
the third version of "Jag laal laal" to do a good job again but after
hearing the first two versions, one really wouldn't want to sit through
the third.
'Devotional'. This is precisely how one would
describe "Jeevan tumne diya hai" and in no other way. Sung by Alka
Yagnik, Roop Kumar Rathod, Udit Narayan and the 'queen of devotional
numbers', Sadhna Sargam, the song will definitely not hit the
chartbusters and is a track to give a miss.
Characteristic of
Sunny Deol movies are the songs that show him shaking a leg and singing
them in a typical Punjabi munda style. So "Lak tunu tunu" couldn't have
featured anywhere but in "Big Brother" as it suits Sunny paaji to the
T. But seriously speaking, this track too could be given a miss because
as much as it tries to get you dancing, it fails in doing so. A
time-pass.
Surprise comes in the form of "Piya", and why not? If
you have the moguls of sensual crooning like Kunal Ganjawala, Shreya
Ghoshal and Ustad behind the vocals, it has to be a must-hear piece.
This
Anil Pandey written and Sandesh Shandilya composed track can be termed
as beautiful. It seems Shreya and Kunal couldn't go wrong and Ustad
just adds plain romance to the track. Music is great, vocals are great
and the result too does not disappoint.
Summing it, the album of
"Big Brother" has few credible numbers, being a very average
soundtrack, and it would probably not find many buyers. We can only
hope that the film at least does well.
