"Nagaram", a new Malayalam film that opened in theatres last
week, tells the tale of a village which has to suffer from the
waste dumped by a nearby city.
"This film has been made after a lot of research because its a
highly topical and relevant issue," director M.A. Nishad told
reporters here Sunday.
The films features 33 Malayalam film stars, including Kalabhavan
Mani, Seema, Gopika, Telegu actress Laxmi Sharma, Jagathy, Jagadish
and thespian actor Thilakan.
"Even though I play the role of a judge and appear only in a few
scenes, I am really happy that I was able to be a part of a film
which addresses a burning social issue. When I saw the film I am
really pleased that it has been told as a story," said Thilakan
after the premiere here.
The film highlights the way a village succumbs to the after effects
of dumping of the waste from the nearby city. It also exposes the
corrupt dealings of people holding respectable positions in
society.
It also marks the return of former glamour queen Seema to Malayalam
films.
"I am really delighted that I have played an important role in my
comeback film," said Seema.
Laxmi Sharma, an upcoming Telegu actress also returns to Malayalam
movies through this film, after her debut in Mammootty's
'Palunku'.
"I am very selective when it comes to roles and that's why,
despite a few other offers, I waited for a role like this and I am
really happy with my performance," said Laxmi.
This is the second film by director Nishad on a burning social
issue. His first,'Pakal', dealt with farmers' suicide.
Rajan Kiriyath pens the screenplay and dialogues based on the
original story by the director himself.
