Cinema buffs were treated to some brilliant performances by the
cast of Tamil film "Paruthiveeran" on day five of the 9th
Osian's-Cinefan film festival here Tuesday.
"Paruthiveeran", directed by Ameer Sultan and starring debutant
Karthik and Priyamani in the lead roles, explores the relationship
between two strong characters - a small-time criminal and a girl
from the respected Thevar community.
Though the story begins with the same old plot of a rich girl
falling in love with a poor boy and the two eloping, the climax
where the two die in a shocking turn of events almost choked the
audience.
"I never imagined a love story to end this way," said Prashant
Nath. "The film had comedy, drama and tragedy but the ending is
something very few films can take a risk with. I was almost in
tears."
The climax was hard to handle even for the debutant actor, who took
almost four months to recover from the intense and emotionally
exhaustive plot.
"For our film, the climax was the key," said Karthik. "I got
drained emotionally after playing it. It took me almost four months
to recover from the impact it had on me."
The day also had acclaimed movies like "Days of Glory" from
Algeria, "She and He" from Tunisia, "Cairo Station" from Egypt and
"Via Darjeeling" from India. The Osian's fest has over the days
been drawing audiences who want to savour varied themes and styles
of moviemaking from different countries.
