Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telugu Desam party
president N. Chandrababu Naidu's son Nara Lokesh Naidu got engaged
to famous Telugu film actor Nandamuri Balakrishna's daughter
Brahmani at a ceremony here Sunday.
Balakrishna is the brother-in-law of Naidu and son of thespian
and TDP founder late N.T.Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR.
Family members of Naidu and Balakrishna, close friends and few
eminent Telugu film personalities attended the ceremony held at the
actor's house in Jubliee Hills amid tight security.
Nobody from TDP or other political parties was invited to the
ceremony, which was a simple family affair, attended by about 300
guests.
The family members of NTR who attended the ceremony included his
son N. Harikrisha and grandson and popular actor Junior NTR.
Veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Nagarjuna, his wife Amla,
Mohan Babu, D. Rama Naidu, Krishnam Raju and Raghvendra Rao were
among few prominent Telugu film personalities who were present on
the accasion.
The marriage of his son with Balakrishna's daughter is being seen
as an attempt by Naidu to mend fences with NTR's family. Since
Balakrishna had hinted that he might make a surprise entry into
politics like his father, the alliance is also being seen in some
circles as an attempt by Naidu to put an end to Balakrishna's
political ambitions.
Naidu's family sources said the marriage was fixed for August 26,
adding that the 'mahurat' was fixed after matching the couple's
horoscopes.
Lokesh is studying first year MBA in Stanford University in the US
after completing his bachelor's degree from Carnegie Mellon
University while Brahmani is studying third year engineering in
Hyderabad.
The ceremony brought Naidu face to face with his sister-in-law and
union minister of state for human resources D.Purandareswari and
her legislator husband D.Venkateshwara Rao after a gap of several
years.
Purandareswari had last month launched a scathing attack on Naidu
for "backstabbing" and humiliating her father NTR.
