Sarath Kumar quits as southern film artistes' association chief

Actor and MP Sarath Kumar has resigned as president of the South
Indian Artistes Association (SIAA). In a late night statement to
the association Thursday, Sarath Kumar said he was "unable to
continue as president of the Nadigar Sangam (SIAA)" due to his
"election" to the post of president of his political party, the
AISMK, floated this week.
Sarath Kumar has been getting flak from film artistes and
industry workers for making it compulsory for them to give five
percent of their earnings to the SIAA.
The levy would be cut from the advances made to artistes when they
signed their contracts.
