When Riya Sen debuted 8 years back in STYLE [1999], the PYT made an
instant impact. Her child-woman features made quick a few hearts skip a
beat and one instantly knew that she pretty much fitted into the
bracket when there was a requirement for an urban chic girl. She was
always visualised as someone who was extremely stylish, fashionable and
ultra cute, as evidenced in her subsequent movies like DIL VIL PYAAR
VYAAR, JHANKAAR BEATS, QAYAMAT, PLAN and SHAADI NO. 1 to name a few. No
one could have ever imagined her to be anything lesser, least of all
being a construction worker.
However, the unthinkable has happened as the PYT has gone through a
complete transformation a decade later by donning a new get-up for her
latest release ZOR LAGAA KE HAIYA. In this fun film which features
Mithun Chakravorty in the lead with a horde of children, Riya appears
in the role of Chamki, a construction worker who works on Gulshan
Grover's construction site. A light hearted comic entertainer, the film
also has Mahesh Manjrekar in the role of a contractor who is in love
with her and their naughty antics promise to bring in much needed
laughter in the narrative.
While Mahesh Manjrekar is shown as someone who is foolish with his
intelligence and experience repeatedly falling short when there's work
to be done, Gulshan Grover plays the role of Bakshi, a conniving,
sadistic and money minded builder who gets the job done at any cost,
especially at the expense of Mother Nature.
Written and directed by debutant Girish Girija Joshi, ZOR LAGA KE HAIYA
(which has released today) is a film about a group of children who,
with the help of a homeless man (Mithun), overcome all the obstacles to
save a tree from being razed by a money-minded construction giant and
his contractor.
