What seemed like a shaky beginning turned out to be a momentary scare
for Aisha as eventually, it did manage to scrape through. Though the
opening Friday was strictly average and word of mouth not much strong
either, Aisha still attracted substantial audience over the weekend to
gain some strength at the box office.
As expected, it did fall over the weekend and though it was steep, it
wasn’t alarming enough to be termed as a crash. Result? A 17 crore
first week for Aisha which is good considering the way a women-centric
film like What's Your Raashee? had done in the past.
In fact, if one thinks hard, there aren't many films (with a woman as
the central protagonist) which have collected such moolah. Ishqiya,
with all its critical acclaim and better word of mouth, had collected
less than 15 crores in its first week. Pyaar Impossible with Priyanka
Chopra in the central role had done one third of this while Kareena
Kapoor’s Kurbaan – though a far better film – hadn't found many takers.
In this way, Aisha can consider itself fortunate that smart promotion,
some very good music and a few good laughs – especially in the first
half of the film – have managed to give audience something to cheer
about.
As expected, there isn't much life ahead for this chick flick since
Peepli [Live] is the talk of the town now. This Anil Kapoor production
has made its moolah and turned out to be a safe average outing at the
box office.
For Sonam, this is now a double win in quick time as two of her
medium budget films have worked back to back. She can well leave the
disappointment of biggies like Delhi 6 and Saawariya behind. With high
profile films like Thank You and Mausam with Akshay Kumar and Shahid
Kapoor respectively lined up for 2011, she can well assume a safe outing
for her from hereon.
