With earthy shades like browns, beiges, greens and olives
colouring the ramp, one thing is evident at the Wills Lifestyle
India Fashion Week (WIFW): that the roots of what inspires some of
our top notch designers are embedded in Mother Earth herself.
Dressed in an olive green bag pants that looked very much like -
but only in a more exaggerated form - the Patiala pants Indian
women wear with kurtas, Siddartha Tytler said his collection at the
fashion week is "all about our planet".
Tytler's theme was titled 'Fusion Earth 3000 A.D.'
"I am inspired by our planet, the earth, the beauty that she is.
Hence you will see a lot of forest, foliage and earth prints in my
clothes. This is the message that I would like to send out to the
people, to be more aware about your surroundings," Tytler told
IANS.
With bag pants or zoaves, as they are called, being the most
distinctive item in his collection for men as well as women, Tytler
uses fabrics like cotton, linen, jersey and silk.
Muted colours like ecru, sandy beiges, earthy browns and pared down
russet with hints of olive made up his palette. The entire line was
connected with a lilting forest pattern that fused together to give
one distinctive look.
"I have extensively used silk thread embroidery on my clothes,
especially on the jackets. Then, I have also used mother of pearl.
All of these originate from the earth," Tytler explained.
Similarly, the earth has also inspired well-known designer Vikram
Phadnis' collection.
Be it the beige coloured bandhgalas with floral motifs or the leaf
imprints on the pleated skirts, that nature was his inspiration was
quite evident.
Phadnis' line had beige and brown slim pants and slacks with high
neck beaded tops, pseudo body hugging dresses, noodle strap bodices
and pencil skirts among others.
"Earth inspires me and you could see that in my collection which
has very little bling. I have used muted thread work and also a lot
of texturing," said Phadnis, who uses fabrics like cotton, velvet
and satin.
Anjana Bhargava, who showcased her collection on the first day of
WIFW and themed her collection on 'Revival', also used a lot of
earthy colours and floral and foliage motifs on her collection.
Be it her elaborate evening gowns with a train or the pristine
white saris, golden imprints of leaves and flowers were seen
extensively in her collection.
"I never follow trends. I loved and enjoyed doing my collection
simply because of the theme - earth. She is effortlessly stylish.
And she is the future," Tytler said.
