If one collection went easy on colours, playing up a few shades
on a white backdrop, the other was extravagant with a myriad of
hues on its palette. But none succeeded in impressing too much on
day two of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW)
Thursday.
The first show of the day was a collision of contrasts on the
ramp, with the collections of designer duo Meher and Riddhima and
that of Drashta Sarvaiya.
Meher and Riddhima's line, called Affascinare, had an appeal of
its own. Dominated by white, the colour that spells comfort in
summer, the line constituted mostly dresses that were flowing and
had a bohemian look.
"Kandinsky's 'On white' is the theme behind the collection. The
line is influenced by geometric shapes and we have used a lot of
bold colour combinations.
"The USP of the collection is the fact that it is very wearable. It
is for the globe trotting woman of today," Meher told IANS.
Intricate cord work on the dresses in colours like blue, pink,
green and orange was another dominant feature. Balloon sleeved
blouses, pleated dresses, shorts teamed with loose full- sleeved
tops also featured in the collection.
The fabrics chosen for the collection were cotton, chiffon, organza
and taffeta with a lot of silk detailing.
To team up with the easy-going look, strappy flat sandals and
purses in bright colours like magenta and green were incorporated
in the collection.
But all said and done, the collection did tend to get monotonous at
the end since there was not much variety, either in colours or cuts
and designs. There was far too much repetition.
Drashta's collection, on the other hand, was very flashy and
wreaked havoc on the ramp with colours.
The show started with models, draped in multihued full-length
dresses, and wearing bright coloured flowers on their hair,
sashaying down the ramp.
"The theme of the collection is 'Paradiso Fondare' meaning
paradise found. It has been influenced by the great epic 'Great
Expectations'," Drashta said.
The collection was an amalgamation of colours, not necessarily in
the usual and expected combinations. Dresses, flowing and in
asymmetrical shapes, dominated the collection.
But then again, despite the eccentric colour combinations et al,
the collection didn't really make a mark on too many.
