“Nahi yeh shaadi nahin ho sakti, Yeh hamari shaan ke khilaaf hain”, “
Pyaar karne se pehle tumne yeh nahin socha ki tum kis khaandaan se
naata rakhti ho”, “ Jao main tumhe apni jaiydad se bedhakal karta hun”,
“ Bhool jao usse varna uske saath saath tumhi bhi maar daalenge”……….
These are the first series of dialogues parents shower on their children
after knowing about their love and marriage decisions. The sad part is
that these are not just mere dialogues but the ground reality of many
families. Honour Killing is slowly spreading its roots in certain parts
of the country under the pretext of ‘Family Honour’.
This reality is exactly the theme of colors new show 'Rishton Se
Badi.…..Pratha'. It’s the story of two youngsters Surbhi and Abhay who
love each other and wants to get married. But their families are against
this union as the are already related to each other due to another
marriage between the two families. Also as per traditional Indian set up
it is against the pride of a family if a girl chooses her own spouse.
The characters of Surabhi and Abhay are played by Shalini Chandran and
Vishal Karwal respectively.
Colors has always followed a theme of highlighting the social
practices prevalent in our country. All their drama series address one
or the other issues that should be completely eradicated from the social
set up of our country. 'Balika Vadhu' features the practice of child
marriage along with many other social evils, 'Bhagyavidaata' showcases
how educated males in Bihar are forced by goons to marry their daughters
on gun point, 'Naa aana Is Des Laado' emphasizes on the neglection of
female child in many parts of the country. Once again the new series
'Rishton Se Badi Pratha' addresses the social evil of Honour Killings in
our society.
'Rishton Se Badi.…..Pratha' is set up in Noida and is inspired by the
recent cases of Nirupama Pathak and Nitish Katara. These cases got
their due justice and highlights because India stood up for them but I
am sure there are many more cases hidden under the blanket of
family honor. What remains to be seen is whether this new series of
drama from the house of Colors will be able to address these under
blanket cases. The show starts today at 7.30 on Colors.
